About Me

I am a guitarist and music educator based in Helsinki, Finland. Proficient in most styles of popular music, I perform, record and teach everything ranging from jazz, blues and funk to pop and rock. I also compose and arrange original instrumental music for my own group.

Born and raised in Finland, I received my formal music training at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where I studied performance and composition with, among others, Jack Pezanelli, Jon Damian, Rick Peckham and Ayn Inserto. Additionally, I have played and studied with artists such as Alain Mallet, Lin Biviano, Marcello Pellitteri, Mika Pohjola, Bob Pilkington and Jake Hertzog.

I have worked as a sideman- and bandleader on festival stages, in theater productions and studio recording sessions, playing with everything ranging from big bands to small ensembles. Awards and accolades include an academic scholarship awarded to me by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.

I play guitar in a variety of different line-ups that can be customized for events and ceremonies of all kinds:

  • My group Aapo Alinikula Elements performs my original compositions and arrangements of assorted jazz standards
  • Cover bands for all wedding and party purposes
  • Acoustic duo line-ups, for example guitar & vocal or guitar & saxophone, for smaller events as a stand-alone performance or as background music
  • Jazz combos: trio-, quartet- or quintet line-ups

Good music rehearsed and performed with quality and detail helps make your event special. Contact me for booking requests.

I have studied with some of the world’s most renowned jazz educators during my time at Berklee College of Music. In my private guitar- and music theory lessons I share the concepts and exercises passed on to me by my peers and teachers.

Guitar lessons focus on teaching fundamental techniques for performing music well, regardless of genre. I am a firm believer in that all well-executed music is good, this means developing good tone and time and a comprehensive understanding of the instrument. Other areas of study include sight-reading, transcribing, arranging, composing, as well as breaking down basic music theory.

Every lesson is designed individually based on the needs of the student. They can be done in person or by video call. Contact me to schedule your first lesson.
